The Zinc coated frame will provide lifetime safety and durability. Flooring of 2x8" pressure treated pine is used to prevent heat transfer from the highway directly to the horse area. Call sales at Double D Trailers or use the live chat feature and ask about "SafeKick" wall system and "SafeBump" roof system featured in this trailer. For your slant dividers, we chose to use a barred head divider/shoulder divider which provides more air flow for the horses as well as makes loading, traveling easier by seeming less claustraphoebic. There are also easy to use, one hand operation slant slam latches on each divder. Aluminum dividers are light weight, functional and super easy to remove should you need to do so for other uses. For maximum safety, quietness of ride and convenience to your horse, we use a high density 2 lb per square foot high density styrofoam insulation in the side walls as well as the roof of the trailer. Another safety and convenience feature are the zinc coated, pre-painted white 22 gauge safety sheets on the interior of the horse side walls, interior roof panel, and exterior side wall sheets. The roof of the trailer is built using white aluminum to reflect heat. The rear **Tack-Around design provides maximum space for you to get in and out of the trailer. It is super roomy, functional and one of the safest products on the market to prevent you from getting in danger while loading or unloading. You will like it, and your horses will love it. Be sure to watch the video for more details on that.

**New for 2010: Below are the changes that have been implemented on this 2010 trailer. We have really researched to provide the latest materials and technologies available to produce what we feel is the safest trailer on the road both for you and your horse. The materials we have chosen provide strength where it is crucial in case of an impact while traveling, yet other materials utilize weight savings to make the trailer as light as possible. In summation, these are your choices in materials that we offer:

**Cross member Frame and Tubing uprights- We offer aluminum or zinc. Our preference and recommendation is zinc. It is 3 times stronger than aluminum, the heat treatment process strengthens it stronger than regular steel allowing us to use smaller gauge metals and achieve the same strength, thus saving weight. It doesn't corrode and is super strong for a base structure. Cost is slightly less than aluminum, but produces much better results in our strength testing, and doesn't require painting which helps in our factory effort to be an environmentally friendly "green" company.

**Flooring--we offer aluminum interlocking extruded or 2x8" pressure treated pine, your choice. Our recommendation, go with the pine flooring. We can offer a life time warranty on the floor, the heat exchange from the road thru the floor is 75% less on wood than aluminum, and the acid from the horse’s urine will not corrode the floor like it does the aluminum. You may read this article about flooring comparisions.

**Exterior Skin---We offer aluminum sheets or Zinc coated Galvalite sheets. Our recommendation, use Galvalite. To the naked eye, both will look the same, weight will be very close, but strength is where the difference is. The Galvalite product is 3 times stronger than the aluminum; cost is about the same...so the real advantage is in the strength. Strength means fewer problems for you down the road with your trailer, less warpage on the side wall sheets and more protection in case of an accident. We fasten either skin GalvaLite or aluminum with the latest 3M bonding technology which doesn't require any screws or fasteners, allowing the exterior skin to "breathe" freely from the frame of the trailer from the heat expansion and contraction.

Areas where we do not have choices in material, but changes we have implemented on our 2010 trailers are as follows:

1) The roof of the horse area will now be aluminum and insulated for better temperature control on your horses and reduction in weight. Our roofing system also provides the latest advancements with sealants to eliminate the risk of leaks in the future. Many people do not realize the importance of the double walled roof system. We hear frequently on other brands of trailers of a horse sticking his head thru the thin roof sheet and getting injured. Not to mention the repair problem you are then facing on the trailer. With our roofing system, it's more than temperature control. The pre-painted white galvanized panels on the bottom will virtually eliminate the risk of injury to a horse rearing up by absorbing the impact thru the high density Styrofoam insulation in the roof. Also, we are the only manufacturer that uses a white color roof on top in aluminum with a white steel sheet on the bottom for horse protection. It's easy to realize that white reflects more heat than any other color so it's important to keep a true reflective color over your horses to reduce on heat. Most manufacturers use thin aluminum which has a natural shiny color for their roof. A simple fact about aluminum is that it is a wonderful conductor of heat, so a shiny finish aluminum roof truly acts like a solar panel on top of the trailer. At Double D Trailers, we stopped using shiny aluminum panels and changed everything to white to produce the best results against heat in the summer and the best results for keeping heat inside in the winter.

2) We have made the decision to "go green" with our product and are eliminating painting our trailers altogether. This saves on paint, sealants, helps the environment and greatly adds to the longevity of the trailer as paint deteriorates so we will not have that problem. This is a huge move in our manufacturing process. In times past, the trailers were fully constructed, cleaned, washed, then all of the seams had to be sealed with caulking to prevent leaking and rusting, then primed and painted. Today, all parts are either zinc coated or aluminum and then bolted together or bonded with a chemical bonding process. This method virtually eliminates points for deterioration on the sides, frame and roof of the trailer.

3) All of the interior dividers of the trailers will now be made of aluminum. This allows for a one hand operation of opening and closing dividers. We have a newly designed stainless steel patented latching system on our dividers which you will absolutely love in its functionality and ease of operation. Aluminum dividers will also save weight on the trailer and eliminates painting as well as rust. Also very safe for the horse.

4) Our framework on the Galvalite trailers we are changing from regular steel to Galvalite tubing. This process is basically a galvanized frame trailer (similar to a boat trailer) which doesn't rust. The Galvalite heat treatment process adds strength to our frame, allowing us to be able to use lighter weight materials, save on cost, eliminate rust and have a superior product in strength. One unique feature of our tubing is that it is coated not only on the outside where you can see it, but on the inside as well. All other regular steel frame trailers use raw steel that is uncoated on the inside, then they prime and paint the outside. However, as the trailer is exposed to temperature change, condensation takes place inside of the tubing’s (water/moisture). Moisture on raw steel will cause corrosion quickly so what happens is that frames rust from the inside out. At Double D Trailers, we believe that what you can't see is as important as what you can see. Thus are GalvaLite frame process zinc coats the insides of our tubing’s as well as the outside. Eliminated the need for painting, and the potential for rust on the inside of the tubes. Plus since we use an insulated horse area and insulated roof, the risk of condensation and moisture if much less than on non-insulated trailers.

5) Doors, hinges: All doors and hinges are now built out of aluminum to save on weight and eliminate rust. All doors are insulated so that horses can't kick thru, helps in regulating temperature and provides a quieter ride for the horse during travel. No rattling inside of the trailer and reduces road noise. In times past, we would weld on a stainless steel piano hinge to a raw piece of steel. This was super strong, and the hinge didn't rust…but there wasn't any paint in between the hinge and the raw steel. As time went on, rust would occur between the hinges on the raw steel. In our new manufacturing process, our zinc coated frames provide the latest advancements in corrosion. Plus, we bolt on aluminum hinges instead of welding. This insures that we have corrosion protection in all the "small cracks" of the trailer, and we do not have rust appearing in seams and joints. It also eliminates the need for caulking and painting.

6) Kick lining: We are eliminating the thin rubber wall lining option and the smoked plywood option and have upgraded to a Polylite lining we have made for us with a life time warranty. We call our design the "SafeKick Wall System." This will benefit in eliminating maintenance on wall lining in the future for you as a customer and also provides greater safety for the horse, as well as saves on weight. It's 95% plastic and 5% rubber both of which are recyclable products in our effort to maintain an environmentally friendly trailer. We got the idea of the SafeKick Wall from NASCAR who implemented what is called a "Safer barrier". NASCAR went to all of their race tracks and installed a high density Styrofoam block of insulation on the inside rack track wall, then they laid another wall beside it. This resulted in an outside wall and inside wall with Styrofoam in the middle. Now, when a car hits the wall, the inside wall actually moves and the impact is absorbed thru the insulation. Resulting in less injuries and damage to the cars. It's the same principle in our horse trailers. We use a 22 gauge pre-painted white zinc coated steel sheet on the outside of the trailer. Then on the inside, we use a Polylite, 95% plastic, 5% rubber, black in color, very durable, maintenance free and we sandwich in between the two walls high density Styrofoam. The result, when a horse paws or more specifically kicks the wall, the impact dissipates thru the Styrofoam and is much easier on your horse’s legs. Our SafeKick wall system definitely will reduce the risk of injury to your horse.

7) Side Wall and Exterior: We are eliminating our galvaneal sheets which have to be welded and painted and have upgraded to a GalvaLite pre-painted sheet. This material is lighter in weight than conventional material, is super strong, doesn't rust and is very safe for the horse in case of an impact in that it will not rip or tear like an aluminum sheet. We have the option of using an aluminum sheet for the same price but the Galvalite is a better product than aluminum skin. Also, we do not weld, screw or rivet the sheets any longer but use the latest bonding technology from 3M to bond the exterior sheet to the galvanized upright. This method provides a damper between the two metals resulting for a quiet ride on the horse, ease of maintenance in the future. It also allows for the exterior skin to expand and contract from temperature change and reduces warpage where as conventional welding, screws or fasteners will not allow expansion so the side wall of the trailer would typically warp and have waves in it. Ours will be less likely to do that.
