Overview

Modern Safety Options on a Classic 2 Horse Gooseneck Design

This 2 horse gooseneck horse trailer is a classic design with several very modern safety upgrades that make Double D Trailers not your “average” manufacturer.  This ‘Sportabout’ model is an all-around great trailer for horsemen ranging from serious show-goers to the casual trail ride enthusiast.

Several Sportabout Configurations Available

Our straight load gooseneck horse trailer contains sleeping quarters that are perfect for an afternoon recharge or living quarters during a weekend away.

But that’s not all … your custom made horse trailer can come with several configurations so you can choose how much trailer you want and what types of features will work for your lifestyle.

Option 1:  Standard 2 horse trailer with combination dressing & tack room.

Option 2:  2 horse trailer with mid-tack room and separate dressing room

Option 3:  2+1 horse trailer with forward box stall, mid-tack room, and separate dressing room.  (This option also works well if you need to transport a carriage or wagon.)

Option 4: 2 horse trailer with mid-tack room and full living quarters area.  Add in a kitchenette, bathroom, dining area … the works!

These options give you the ability to go big or stay small with your final trailer design.  Every feature on your Double D Trailer can be specified.  Add perks like extra stall room for your large breed horses, air conditioning in the dressing room, or multiple side escape doors to make loading a breeze.

You can choose to add an outdoor awning to the side of your trailer and customize exactly how many saddles you want to fit in your tack room. Or, if you want to go really big, you can add a full living quarters package to your 2 horse gooseneck horse trailer.

Since our trailers are built-to-order, you are going to get more ‘bang for your buck’ with this custom horse trailer.  Pay for the features you want and leave out those that don’t excite you.  You will get factory direct pricing without huge mark-ups that are common on a typical dealer’s lot.

You end up with a trailer that is designed exactly to your specifications and desires!

Comfortable Horse Area That Works Well for Large Breed Horses

All of our trailers, including the popular SafeTack slant load horse trailers, can be customized to fit your large horse breeds.  This particular 2 horse straight load gooseneck model comes standard with a 7’6” high ceiling, padded stalls, and a bright, airy interior.

We put special attention into the inside of the trailer to make sure that it is welcoming to even the largest breeds of horses.  After all, a beautiful and well-constructed trailer doesn’t do much good if your horse doesn’t want to walk on board!

Here are just some of the features that are included to make our trailers comfortable for stress-free travel:

  • Individual roof air vents and large easy-open windows for air flow.
  • Tubular head dividers so that your horse can see his surroundings.
  • White painted interior to reflect light for high visibility.
  • 2” handmade padding on dividers for a comfortable leaning surface.
  • SafeKick walls that flex to protect your horses’ delicate legs.
  • Fiber composite insulated SafeBump roof that helps regulate the temperature on the hottest of days.
  • Z-Frame construction will protect your horse in the case of an accident.
  • Rumber flooring option that transfers less heat and road vibration up into their legs.
  • Quiet interior with rivet-less 3M chemical bonding design.

Mid-Tack Dressing Room Lets Equipment Stay Pristine

The mid-tack dressing room available on several of the design options described above is the perfect space to organize your equipment.  Saddle racks, bridle hooks, and other organizational features will help you protect your valuable tack and grooming supplies.

Best of all, you can keep this (sometimes messy) equipment away from your show clothing, food, and bedding materials in the dressing room.

An interior wall will separate this mid-tack room from both the horse area and the dressing room area.  Interior doors can connect the spaces along with an exterior door directly to your tack room.

Easier and Safer Loading with Various Escape Door Options

Our attention to safety is one of the main things that sets Double D Trailers apart from other trailer manufacturers.  In fact, we’ve revolutionized loading safety on the SafeTack slant load horse trailer design.

Learn more about Slant Load vs. Straight Load horse trailers.

While this straight load model isn’t the star of our show, it’s still got some truly attractive features that make it an exceptionally safe straight load horse trailer.  First of all, we allow the buyer to choose whether they prefer a step-up or ramp for their horse trailer.  The interior divider can swing over to give your horse more room to walk into his stall.

Once inside, you can decide where and how to place the escape doors.  Often, straight load horse trailers have a small half-height escape door that the handler needs to climb through once their horse is in position.

We give you the option of putting as many full-sized escape doors in your trailer as you’d like.  Recently, two full sized doors has been a very popular option with our customers.  Handlers can also use the interior door to pass directly from the horse area into the tack room or dressing room (depending on your design configuration.)

It should be noted that this trailer does not have a manger in the front of the straight load stalls.  This is another element for safety that allows the handler to walk straight through when loading their horses.

As with many straight load horse trailers, it is necessary to have chest and butt bars positioned around your horse to keep him in his stall.  Our bars have an easy-release safety pin that makes it possible to lower the bar even if the full weight of your horse is on top of it.  This is an important safety feature that can be used if a horse ever rears up and latches a leg over the chest bar.

Towing Safety with this 2 Horse Gooseneck Trailer for Sale

Our gooseneck horse trailers are especially safe to tow.  We’ve designed a V-shaped nose that makes it easier for short bed pick-up trucks to haul safely without any turning radius restrictions.  Plus, we’ve positioned the rear lights high up on the trailer so that they can be seen by following motorists.

This 2 horse gooseneck trailer weighs approximately 4100 lbs and can be towed with most any 1500 series half ton pick-up truck.  We always recommend that you carefully look at the towing capacity of your vehicle and the hitch capacity to ensure that you are hauling a safe load.  We are always happy to talk with you if you have any towing questions or concerns.

  • Stock Side Trailer
Make this a stock side trailer (open slatted) rather than enclosed with windows. Suggestion: we do recommend against open sided trailers since they are not water tight and allow rain to get inside your trailer on the flooring, walls and padding. However, some customers want open stock style trailers, so this option is available. Pricing does not include the Plexiglass. Many customers feel open sided trailers are cooler but this is not the case. Since all Safetacks are insulated in the side walls, insulated in the roof, and use not heat transferring property materials, your horses will ride very comfortable in a fully enclosed trailer with windows and vents for air flow.
