Sometimes ‘One’ is the Perfect Number:  Single Horse Trailer with SafeTack Layout

Are costly gas prices coupled with declining tow capacities on vehicles making you reconsider your 2 horse trailer?  Why should you tow around a heavier and longer two horse trailer when a single horse trailer would do the job?

Don’t worry, you’re not alone!  Many horse people are asking this question so we developed a true single horse bumper pull trailer that will work perfectly for horsemen with just one horse BFF.

3 Ways a One Horse Trailer Will Save You Money

    • Spend less money on gas towing a lighter trailer.
    • The initial cost of a single horse trailer will be lower than a larger trailer.
    • Buy a less expensive (since it can be less powerful) tow vehicle to match your trailer.

Advantages of a One Horse Trailer

  • single horse trailerEasier Towing:  A one horse trailer from Double D Trailers is going to be about 11.5 feet long, which is 2.5 feet shorter than a typical 2 horse trailer.  This reduced length means it is going to be easier to maneuver on the road.  Plus, you'll have increased visibility.
  • More Tow Vehicle Options:  A smaller trailer also means a lighter hauling load.  You’ll save about 500 lbs of weight and have a greatly reduced tongue weight.  Your single horse trailer will weigh around 2,700 lbs so you can buy a smaller, less powerful truck or SUV.  These smaller tow vehicles also tend to be less expensive!
  • Avoid the Liability of Towing a Friend’s Horse:  To be brutally honest, towing a friend’s horse is not always a picnic.  If their horse is a difficult traveler it could injure themselves, your horse, or damage your trailer.  Deciding who is liable to handle these expenses can put a strain on a friendship.  If you have a single horse trailer, your answer is easy: “Sorry, I can’t help out.  I’ll meet you there!”
  • Safer Loading and Unloading with SafeTack Configuration:  Our unique slant load trailer configuration provides a wide open entryway for loading and unloading.  Most single horse trailers from other brands have long and narrow hallways that can frighten a horse.  Our design is bright and airy with plenty of room for you to fully turn the horse and walk off the rear of the trailer to unload.
  • SafeTack Storage Compartment:  Lock your tack and equipment in this breathable and totally enclosed rear tack storage area.  Most other slant load trailers have stationary rear tack areas that result in a narrow loading door for the horses.  Instead, our SafeTack compartment swings out like a second door leaving a wide open doorway for safer loading.
  • Design a Custom Dressing Room:  This dressing area is perfect to store your equipment, change outfits, or even camp out for the night with an optional mattress.  All Double D Trailers are built to order, so you can decide exactly what features you want to include.

Safer Loading with a SafeTack One Horse Trailer

single horse trailer

Is your horse a nervous loader?

Many horse trailers on the market have long and narrow entryways for loading.  Horses are naturally claustrophobic animals and they see these trailers as dark and scary places where they will be trapped.

Our SafeTack single horse trailer fixes this problem with a wide open and bright entryway for your horse.  The SafeTack storage compartment provides a secure and breathable place for you to store your equipment.  More importantly, it swings out like a second door.  Instead of a narrow and dark loading door, the horses have a full-width trailer opening to walk through.

This configuration not only makes your horse feel more comfortable, but it keeps YOU safer.  With more room to maneuver, there is less chance of being pinned against the sides of the trailer if your horse moves suddenly.

Does your horse have difficulty going in his reverse gear?

Backing out of a trailer can be a bit nerve-wracking for some animals.  With the SafeTack configuration, there is plenty of room to fully turn around and walk off the rear of the trailer.

Have you ever fumbled with a butt bar at your horse’s back end?

It can be a scary experience if your horse is antsy in his trailer stall.  Plus, getting kicked while fumbling with the butt bar is no small matter.  Our second partition easily locks into place next to the horse, so you don’t ever need to worry about this dangerous scenario.

Custom Single Horse Trailers Even Work For Large Horses

Many horse owners who have animals over 16.0 hands automatically rule out slant load trailers because they are concerned that their animals will be too cramped.  While that may be the case with most traditional slant load trailers, we do things a little differently at DDT.

All of our trailers are custom built so we take into account the size of your horse when creating your design.  This means we can add extra space where it’s needed so your animal is safe and comfortable.

The SafeTack single horse trailer from Double D is the perfect option for horse owners looking to cut costs and improve functionality of their trailer.  If you’d like to start designing your own custom single horse trailer, be sure to click the “Customize Your Trailer” button below.  Remember, you can always ask us a question if you’d like.
